Vision:
To promote the empowerment of all Peers through personal and professional development.
WHO WE ARE
Peer Network of New York (PNNY) started in 2010 as a pilot project with NYCDOHMH’s Bureau of Alcohol and Drug Use Prevention, Care & Treatment to connect with Peers working in harm reduction, syringe exchange programs (SEP) and naloxone distribution. PNNY has a long-standing history of engaging with individuals and communities in the South Bronx and East Harlem, and is now a network of over 300 Peers in New York’s five boroughs and across the State.
▶ Principles
PNNY calls for the elimination of structural and systemic violence and oppression of people of color, indigenous people, women, and transgender and gender non-conforming people.
PNNY is committed to increasing opportunities for people who use drugs, people who engage in sex work, women, LGBTQIA communities, people who are living with HIV/AIDS and/or Hepatitis C, people who experience homelessness, and any other vulnerable communities to become Peers.
PNNY recognizes that poverty, racism, social isolation, stigma, and other inequalities impact Peers differently, and seeks to ensure that proper mentoring and support is provided for every Peer on a consistent basis within their respective agencies and organizations.
PNNY believes in every Peer’s right to equitable compensation, fair treatment, ongoing personal and professional development, educational opportunities, and healthy working conditions.
PNNY encourages people who use drugs, people who engage in sex work, women, LGBTQIA communities, people who are living with HIV/AIDS and/or Hepatitis C, people who experience homelessness, and any other vulnerable communities to lead and create peer-based public health interventions and programs.
